A couple of weeks ago, I was enjoying a delicious southern bbq meal full of good conversation and fun atmosphere at Southern Hospitality; Justin Timberlakes bbq restaurant on NYC’s upper east side. Me and my girlfriends had the nicest waitress who just happen to sing in a group called “The Shells“. Melanie, had all the fittings of a southern girl and I couldn’t miss the chance to hear “The Shells” live at the NYC “Knitting Factory“. Sure I had listened to some of their cuts on their myspace page, but I was truly shocked when I heard them live.
Think Dixie Chicks, just 10 years later. “The Shells”, Melanie, Jessi, and Carrie took the stage with endless enthusiasm. They harmonize beautifully with one another and they sound great with their kick ass band. These girls write their own songs and that gets our respect any day of the week. We like so many of their songs, it’s hard to chose a favorite. We love ‘Sunday Funday’ and be sure to check out ‘Wrong From the Start’. If you live in New York you should definitly go see these girls live. Otherwise, be sure to check out their myspace page. You’re in for a treat.
We secretly hope they title their upcoming album ‘Sunday Funday’, because as any 20 something knows, Sunday is always a Funday with brunch and mimosas. We can’t wait to watch this group grow and invade Nashville, they’re going to make a splash. Be on the lookout for their album in the coming months, it is going to rock.
