Jewel Goes Bowling

A note from Jewel:

Its freaking cold out here!!!! It’s been sub-zero this whole tour, but I gotta say, I’m having so much fun! I can’t tell u guys how much I enjoy singing for you each night. I really feel like I have the best fans in the world. What I do solo acoustic is not really very modern- I mean, today almost all shows are full of pyro, big light shows, and dancing. It’s an entertainment circus people come to see. My shows are old-school, a throw back to the stuff I was inspired by as a kid. It’s just a guitar and the truth, MY truth.

Its awesome that 13 years later in my career, folks pack into a theatre to hear nothing but my voice and the lyrics I wrote with the simple accompaniment of my acoustic guitar. It feels so good to just talk and be myself without the hype or pomp and circumstance of modern music. I have always been myself- wherever it has taken me down the road as it twists and turns. I feel so proud to be where I am, and that you all have stayed with me for my ride as I explore my wonderland of music.

I’ve noticed that I am enjoying the process of touring more this time. For most of my career, I felt like I just fought and fought for it; that I was too tired and too stressed to enjoy it. Now I feel comfortable and more relaxed, like I have earned my career, and I’m happy with where it is. I’m just enjoying the process as much as the performing.

There are 4 of us on the road- Amy, my assistant, Curt, my tour manager, and Adrian, my sound engineer. Virginia, the brunette, is my manager that comes out with us sometimes. I thought I would share a video clip we recorded the other night in Dubuque, Iowa. We were in a casino that had a private bowling alley! Our bus wasn’t due to depart until 1 AM, so after the show we all went to this amazing private bowling alley. We put the silly shoes on and bowled amidst disco lights and a giant screen that blasted random music videos. I was bowling (badly) when my own video came on- it was so surreal- so I got up and made fun of the moment by making this little silly video. Then we all took turns being silly and dancing (again, badly!)

Anyway- enjoy, and I will see u guys on the road!!!
