Jake Owen at Joes in Chicago

Jake Owen played this past weekend at Joes in Chicago. One loyal fan sent us a great story about her concert experience. It involves a road trip, a broken down car, a repair shop, Jake Owen and much much more… this is how it ends:

2  tickets to see Jake Owen - $100
1 night stay at the Sheraton - $139
Hotel Parking - $39
Tow - $70
Rental Car - $156
Cab fare - $30
Gas (to Chicago from Cleveland 2 times) $150
Tolls ((to Chicago from Cleveland 2 times) $40
1 car part - $85
Food, Coors light and Misc… $120
Memory of a lifetime, my husband admitting that I was right and the opportunity to shake Jake’s hand… $PRICELESS!

the full story after the jump. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Check out the pictures from the show. Thanks Melissa for the great photos and story.

I have been following Jake on Twitter, Facebook and his website for the past few months… somewhat obsessive — I suppose. We live in Cleveland and the only show that Jake was going to hold would not be until Fall. Through Jake’s website, I discovered that Jake would be playing at Joe’s Bar, so I began listerning to US 99.5 online. I tried for weeks to score tickets, even went as far as emailing your promotions department for a free handout (no luck - thx promotions! j/k). We succummbed to purchasing the tix through craigslist. Very disappointing that someone would sell tix that had zero face value, but whats worse is the fact that I paid $50 for each tix. I told my husband there was no way I was missing this show.

Friday morning (the 13th… a clue!) we started to leave our house and my husband and I got into an argument over which car we should take. I wanted to take our newer Expedition, my hubby opted for the 20 year old Acura with well over 140k miles on it. He kept assuring me that the Acura was both reliable and would spare the 700 miles added to the odomoter on the Expedition. I begged to differ, but decided for the sake of arguing, I would take his word and go with the Acura (only after making a death threat to him that if I missed Jake Owen, we would divorce in whatever city we were in — no joke… I really said this!).

Approximatly 5 hours and 15 minutes into our 6 hour trip, the Acura dies alongside the highway. The closest town: La Porte, IN. We were towed one mile to a Garage that had only 20 minutes left until their day ended at 3:00. Of course, this shop is also closed weekends.  Needless to say… they didnt have time to repair at the car, but were able to order a part that would be delivered the following day. My husband would be able to make the repair himself once the part arrived. So, we went ahead and rented a car for the night and were off and rolling once again.

It wasn’t until we got to downtown Chicago and had to pay a rediculous amount for parking that we began to think perhaps we should have thought this through a little more before we left. We quickly showered and caught a cab to Joes. We got there around 6, ate dinner and drank a bucket of Coors light before getting in line.

We were fortunate enough to secure amazing spots centerstage, 3 people back! Jake’s performance was outstanding! Jake looked as sexy as ever and I swear he was flirting with me with his bedroom eyes… ok, maybe not, but a girl can dream! Not only were we all handed an autographed album cover and free cd, but I was close enough for him to squeeze my hand and throw me a pick.

The high (not from Weed St… from Jake! - HAHA) did not subside until we left the Windy City and arrived back in LaPorte to pick up the part to our car. The auto supply store ordered the wrong part! The correct part could not be delivered until Monday, since, like everything else in this rinky town… it was closed on Sundays. We just made it home. We get to trek back out that way on Monday to pickup the car and return the rental. I can’t hardly wait! haha.

So, what was supposed to be a $200 trip ended up costing us big, here is the breakdown:

2  tickets to see Jake Owen - $100
1 night stay at the Sheraton - $139
Hotel Parking - $39
Tow - $70
Rental Car - $156
Cab fare - $30
Gas (to Chicago from Cleveland 2 times) $150
Tolls ((to Chicago from Cleveland 2 times) $40
1 car part - $85
Food, Coors light and Misc… $120
